Carefully handmade accessories, table linens and homeware for slow living

Everyday Artefacts is all about slow living in your own way. There is no catch-all definition of 'slow living' and there shouldn't be. For some, it is 'do less, but better': Our products are handmade with a lot of care in small batches. For others it is about connecting with other people or nature; knowing how and where their purchases are made: The fabric we use is locally sourced as far as is possible and is ALL natural. Each item is printed by hand and ethically manufactured.

For me, Margie - designer and chief of imagination at Everyday Artefacts - slow living is also about creating space for paying attention. I've got an eye out for beautiful things, because - as the late great Irish philosopher John O'Donohue put it - beauty gives us a sense of homecoming. I created this little brand for the moments of calm you take for yourself, for your noisy, festive gatherings around food and for the journeys you take, big or small. The focus is on timeless design, ethical manufacturing and natural, quality materials - good things made to last.

About

Margie Jansen

Owner and Chief of Imagination

The range is designed by me, Margie, in my little studio in Cape Town, South Africa. I draw inspiration from modern and minimalist artists, both famous and not so well-known - too many to mention. I've always nurtured a love for geometric shapes, neutral colour palettes and chic, classic style.

Every product in the range is made with 100% natural, locally-sourced fabric and printed on by hand using water-based inks. Every object is sewn and made by a local social enterprise that emphasises skills development and community empowerment.
